FAQ

What kind of books do you write?

I write memoirs, fiction, and a few “humor books” about cats. I realize how insanely lucky I am to get to do this for a living! My books are all generally “clean” (There’s one bad word in Homer’s Odyssey—which, given the context, I think is entirely justified! 😉) I like to think that I write for cat lovers who prefer intelligent books that contain plenty of humor and heart.

Why should I buy from your store?

If you want to support authors directly, buying from their store cuts out the middleman and allows them to keep most of the profits. (This is what enables me to donate 10% of my store’s proceeds to animal rescue organizations!) That being said, I love finding new readers whether they purchase here in my store or on Amazon, Apple, or Nook—so buy where you feel led to buy!

How do I get my ebooks/audiobooks?

After purchase, you will get an email from BookFunnel with your download links. If you have any problem finding the email or downloading your books, please email my tech team at help@bookfunnel.com.

What is the correct reading order for the Homer series?

You should read Homer's Odyssey first, followed by Homer: The Ninth Life of a Blind Wonder Cat. After that, you can read Spray Anything and Homer Returns in any order.

Books #3 and #4 can work as standalones, but you should NOT read Book #2 until you've read Homer's Odyssey!

Are your books appropriate for younger readers?

While my books are written for adults, I’ve heard from many fourth- and fifth-graders over the years who’ve read Homer’s Odyssey for school book reports and other class assignments. If your reader is younger than that, have no fear! An all-new Younger Reader’s Edition of Homer’s Odyssey will be available in Spring 2026!

As for my other books, I would probably say that Love Saves the Day warrants a PG-13 rating for adult themes (including the loss of a parent in adulthood).

What are some of the rescue organizations you like to support?

I’ve been proud to support numerous animal-welfare organizations since Homer’s Odyssey was first published. One of my earliest favorites—and still very near and dear to my heart—is Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary. I’ve watched over the past decade as Good Mews in Atlanta, GA has risen from humble beginnings to become the metro-Atlanta area’s first no-kill, cage-free cat shelter.

If you’re looking for an organization that just generally does amazing, no-kill rescue work all over the U.S., you can’t do better than Best Friends. Probably the most impressive rescue group I know is Kabul Small Animal Rescue in Kabul, Afghanistan—founded and still run by American Charlotte Maxwell-Jones. Charlotte is an incredible human being who’s working under unthinkable conditions, and her story will inspire you.
